Description

This manor house, now a country house, dates to 1559, with substantial alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of coursed and squared rubble, with some banding, render and stucco, and has slate, double-Roman and pantiled roofs. The building has a layout in the shape of a capital L, comprising two distinct phases. The east-west wing, built in the late 16th century, originally had a first-floor hall. The north-south wing was remodelled in the late 18th century, although it retains an earlier core.

The south front of the east-west wing features a four-light stone mullioned window on the first floor, with square-paned leaded lights. Below this is a smaller, three-light window of similar design. To the right is a projecting polygonal stair-turret with single-light windows and a moulded stone surround to the doorway, featuring a four-centred arch. Further to the right is an incised stone bearing the date 1559. This section has three door openings; one with a plank door, two with French windows, and two three-light casements with square-paned leaded lights to the first floor.

The east elevation of the north-south wing has three bays, with triple-light sash windows of a 3:12:3 pane configuration. A projecting square porch has a coping and parapet, with paired two-panelled doors, a transom light, and sidelights.

A walled garden to the south incorporates remains from the 16th century, including two gateways with moulded stone jambs; one has a four-centred arch head. A two-story outhouse is located at the corner of the walled garden. The entrance to the east front is marked by a gateway with tall rendered piers, ball finials, wrought-iron gates, and an overthrow. The interior has not been inspected.
