Description
The steps and elevated terrace in the garden of No. 1 Enmore Castle were likely built in the mid-19th century for the Broadwood family. The terrace is set on a rubble plinth and features stone vase balustrading with a moulded stone handrail. There are two central stone piers topped with fluted stone urns, along with two pairs of piers at each end that also hold urns, although one urn was missing during the re-survey in January 1985. The terrace leads to two flights of six stone steps, which are similarly adorned with vase balustrading. At the bottom of each flight, there are piers capped with balls. Each end of the terrace has a section of rubble wall topped with dressed stone coping and additional piers with finials. This structure is included mainly for its group value with Enmore Castle and serves as an entertaining garden feature.
