Description

The wall with gateways bounding the churchyard of the Church of St. Michael, along with the attached walling that connects to Nos 1 and 2 Enmore Castle, is likely from the 18th century, with alterations made in the mid to late 19th century. This low rubble wall features a brick coping along the churchyard and simple wrought and cast-iron railings. The main gateway has paired wrought and cast-iron gates, topped with a later lamp.

To the east, there is another gateway with a single wrought-iron gate, flanked by rusticated brick and stone piers that have moulded stone caps and ball finials. The eastern end of the churchyard wall includes a gateway to Enmore Castle, which also has a rusticated brick and stone pier, moulded stone caps with ball finials, and an ornamental wrought-iron gate. Attached to the east side of this gateway is a section of rubble wall with a dressed stone coping, which steps down in four sections and includes another rusticated brick and stone pier.

At the west end of the churchyard wall, there is a section of rubble wall with a dressed coping, leading to paired gateways to Enmore Castle that are similarly flanked by rusticated brick and stone piers with moulded caps and ball finials, featuring 20th-century wooden gates.
