Description
The gateway and north boundary wall to the churchyard, located 16 metres north of the porch of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin, dates from the 17th century for the gateway, while the walling is likely from the 19th century. Constructed from Ham stone ashlar, the wall is approximately 1.25 metres high and features angled copings, with the eastern section having stepped coping. There is a gap in the centre, and towards the west end, there is a tall chamfered cambered-arched gateway with incised spandrils. The coping is heavily moulded and returns down the sides. The gateway includes 20th-century timber gates. This structure contributes to the overall character of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin and the surrounding streetscape.
