ST4817 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP EAST STOKE (South side) 7/299 Two monuments in churchyard, about 14 metres south of nave, Church of St. Mary the Virgin - GV II Pair of monuments. C18 and C19. (a) Sprackett monument 13 metres south: Chest tomb, C17. Ham stone. Moulded plinth; one ovolo-mould panel each face, with plain pilasters with incised foilage to flanks, carved crest on east panel, no frieze; cyma-recta coving to hipped top. Commemorates William Sprackett, died 1614? and other members of family with death dates in C18. (b) Sprackett monument 15 metres south; Chest tomb, C19. Ham stone. Base buried; plain panels, one each end and two each flank, the panels slightly convex curved, with reeded pilasters; moulded coving to hipped top. Commemorates George Sprackett, died 1809, and others.
