Description

Alhampton Court is a house dating to circa 1650. It is constructed of coursed and squared Cary stone rubble, with freestone dressings, and has a double-Roman tile roof with coped verges and brick stacks. The building follows a cruciform plan. It has two storeys and an attic, with a 3-bay front. The windows are mostly stone-mullioned, with 2, 3, and 4 lights, and contain iron casements with leaded lights. A large central dormer gable has a window to the attic. Windows have stopped labels. A central door opening is set within a chamfered stone surround, featuring a 4-centred arch head and a reproduction studded door. A blocked door opening is located to the left of the ground floor. Further stone-mullioned windows are present on the other elevations, some with square-paned, others with diamond-paned leaded lights. Inside, a fireplace with a stone surround is on the ground floor. There are original, moulded architraves to doors on the first floor, and the original roof construction retains carpenters' marks.
