Description
The Old Rectory is a detached house that was formerly used as a rectory. It has origins dating back to the 17th century and was remodeled in the 18th century. The building is constructed from ham stone ashlar and near-ashlar, topped with a hipped Welsh slate roof and featuring rendered chimney stacks. It stands two storeys high with attics and has a symmetrical five-by-five bay layout.
The exterior includes a plinth and an eaves cornice with a secret gutter. The windows are 12-pane sash types set within architraves, some of which have thick glazing bars. The lower windows are sheltered by hoods, while the upper central window features an eared architrave with a console bracket supporting the cill. The central entrance on the lower level consists of a six-panel door accessed by two steps, flanked by Doric pilasters, and topped with a full entablature and a pediment hood.
The south elevation mirrors the five-bay layout but has a central doorway with a moulded recess and a flat hood on console brackets. Above this doorway is a semi-circular arched 24-pane sash window with 'Y' tracery at the top, and the architrave includes imposts and a keystone. The roof has four 20th-century flat-roofed dormer windows. On the north side, there are two five-light ovolo-moulded mullioned windows with labels, one of which has a light blocked off, along with two small-pane casements. There is also a range of single-storey buildings attached to the rear.
The interior has not been seen, but it has been reported that a service wing was demolished in 1954, and all original ceilings and fireplaces have been removed.
