Description
Dry Close is a detached house dating back to the 16th century, with significant alterations made in 1721. The exterior is constructed from roughly cut and squared ham stone, with a Welsh slate roof behind high coped gables, suggesting a previous thatched roof. Brick chimney stacks are at the ends. The house has two storeys and five bays, with the south-east elevation facing away from the road. The windows are hollow-chamfered mullioned, set into almost square recesses. On the ground floor, the bays between the first two have four lights, bay three has two lights, and the bays between four and five have three lights. The first-floor windows are all two-light. A four-fielded-panel door is located to the left of the third bay, set within a heavy frame under a timber lintel, and features a datestone indicating 1721. A later 19th-century extension exists at the rear of the property. The interior reportedly comprises a two-room plan, with an entrance hall containing stud-and-panel screens and deeply chamfered ceiling beams. The staircase was relocated and the roof reconstructed in the 19th century.
