Description
Pound Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with alterations made in the early 19th century. It is rendered over random rubble and features a slate roof with overhanging eaves supported by brackets on the gable ends. There are brick stacks on the left and right sides, as well as between the first and second bays on the left. The building is two storeys high and has five bays. The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, except for a single light window in the center above the porch. The ground floor has 16-pane sash windows beneath an early 19th-century rendered porch, which has a gabled front with a blind pointed arch recess. The entrance is flanked by blind lancets, and there are crenellated returns lit by arched recesses. An early 20th-century door is present. The left end of the facade is long and unlit, with a tiny single light window on the left gable end return, likely illuminating the stair bay. There is an extension at the rear. The interior has not been viewed. The farmhouse is believed to be the manor house of Lydeard Fincherton, as noted by J Collinson in "The History and Antiquities of the County of Somerset" published in 1791, and referenced in an unpublished report by the Victoria Archaeological Group in May 1981.
