Hyde Cottages And Outbuilding To West, About 100 Metres South Of Hyde Farm

Hyde Cottages and the outbuilding to the west, located about 100 metres south of Hyde Farm, is a farmhouse that was later divided and is now used as a store for Hyde Farm, although the store itself is not included in this listing. The farmhouse dates back to the 16th century and underwent alterations in the late 20th century. It was in very poor condition at the time of the survey in July 1984.

The farmhouse is rendered over cob and has a roof covered with corrugated iron sheeting, with thatch underneath. There are brick stacks at the gable ends and a rendered stack to the right of the cross passage, which has a brick cap. The original layout of the farmhouse is not entirely clear, but it appears to consist of four cells and a cross passage, with a stair turret on the rear elevation accessed from a room to the right of the cross passage. The building has one and a half storeys and four bays, featuring dormers that rise from the eaves. The right bays have 20th-century metal casements with brick surrounds. On the ground floor, there is one window to the left of the original entrance, which has a cambered head to the doorframe and chamfered jambs with stops. There are two windows in the center, a plank door, and a window in the end bay to the right, the latter two also having brick surrounds.

The interior is partially visible and features a moulded four-panel compartment ceiling, which may be six panels to the right of the cross passage, partly supported by moulded corbels and scratch-moulded joists. The outbuilding is constructed of cob and random rubble, entirely buttressed on the west front with 20th-century red brick. It has a steeply pitched pyramid roof covered with corrugated iron sheeting and thatch below, and is roughly square in plan. The outbuilding contains two pairs of trusses with two pairs of collar beam trusses.
