Description
The Lodge to Pondsmead is an early 19th-century building located in Ashwick, Oakhill. It is constructed from rough-hewn and randomly-laid rock, primarily Tufa, and features a hipped slate roof with a central circular chimney. The lodge has a roughly circular plan and a roof with five slopes. It is a single storey with an attic that includes two gabled dormers, and the eaves are swept at irregular angles. The entrance is situated in a shell-encrusted niche and consists of a pointed half-glazed door with reticulated tracery, framed by a "rustic" surround. There are paired two-light windows, also with "rustic" mullions and surrounds, which feature reticulated glazing. This lodge is noted for its unusual and eccentric design in the cottage orne style.
