Description
Halse Water Cottage is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of red sandstone random rubble, with a facade that is painted rubble and render, topped by a thatched roof and featuring brick stacks. The building has one and a half storeys and consists of four bays. The 20th-century windows are 2- and 3-light casements with segmental heads, located in the gabled bay. The left half of the facade protrudes forward, featuring a single-storey outer bay and a gabled second bay on the left. The second bay on the right has a four-centred arch doorway with a plank and stud door, while the outer bay has a gabled dormer and a casement window to the left below. There is an extension on the right return elevation.
Inside, the cottage is said to have a water pebble-floored cross passage, with a hall to the right that has a hollow chamfered beam and a four-compartment ceiling with small plaster details and an incomplete plaster frieze. A partition cuts through the ceiling, with a newel stair located behind it, to the left of a modern grate.
