Description
Bakers Rock Cottage is a 17th-century farmhouse that has been converted into three dwellings. It is built from red sandstone random rubble with a rendered facade that is grooved to resemble ashlar. The building features a thatched roof on the three left-hand bays and a steeply pitched slate roof on the two bays to the right. There is an external stack on the left, along with 20th-century brick stacks on the right-hand gable and to the left of the cross passage. The structure has a "U"-plan and was originally designed as a three-cell layout with a cross passage. It is two stories high and has five bays, with three-light casements that include glazing bars. The original entrance for Bakers is located in the second bay from the right, featuring a six-panel door and a thatched, gabled, 20th-century rustic wooden porch. The entrance to Rock Cottage is in the second bay from the left, marked by a 20th-century tiled gabled brick porch. The right return elevation has a tiny single light window that originally illuminated the stair bay. Inside, Rock Cottage is said to contain a 17th-century platter frieze.
