Description

Wheelwrights Cottage is a cottage, formerly two or more, dating from the 18th century. It is built of local lias stone that is cut and squared, with a clay pantiled roof. The north portion features stepped coped gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottage is single-storey with attics and has three plus two bays.

The windows are small-pane casements, mostly with two lights. The upper set is located in tiled and timbered dormers, while the lower set is under timber lintels. The lower bay 1 has a part-glazed door, likely from the 18th century, with a small sidelight. To the right of bay 2, there is a 20th-century boarded door in a 20th-century open timber porch. Lower bay 3 features a three-light window. There is an extension that matches the original structure, which was probably a separate cottage at one time, set forward slightly and with a small window in the return. The plain window in lower bay 1 has a dormer above it, and there is a larger three-light window in lower bay 2. The interior has not been seen.
