Description

Frog Lane Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1744, with possible earlier origins, and it underwent alterations in the mid to late 19th century. The building features roughcast over squared and coursed blue lias on the exposed ground floor to the left of the entrance, a plinth, Bridgwater patent tiles, and brick stacks on the right gable end and the north-east gable end, along with a tall stone stack on the left return. The farmhouse is designed in a U-plan and has one and a half storeys with a 1:2 bay arrangement. The left bay is gable fronted and adorned with decorative bargeboards, while the right side has two 3-light casements in a raised section of the wall. On the ground floor, there is a many paned casement to the left and a 5-light casement to the right of the entrance. The entrance features a chamfered depressed 4-centred arch 18th-century doorway with a plank door, accessed by a flight of five steps. Above the doorway is a plasterwork rondel inscribed "TB 1744," and there is a gabled porch supported by tree trunk columns and finished with Bridgwater patents. The left return has a dormer casement, and the ground floor end bay to the left has a 3-light casement, with the rest concealed by a lean-to addition. There is a loft over a store that abuts the gable end, which is accessed from the left return by an external stair. The rear elevation features a similar doorframe to the rear of the through passage and a small steeply chamfered 2-light window above. The interior has not been seen. The early 19th-century railings are made of cast iron with crested heads, fronting the property and returning to the left gable end only.
