Description

The Hollies is a house, dating to around 1840, which has since been converted into five separate dwellings. It is built with a rendered exterior, a slate roof, and rendered stacks at the gable ends and centre ridge. The house has a double-depth plan, with a later extension to the right side. It is two storeys high, with a four-window facade. The first-floor windows are simple sash windows with two panes per sash. The ground floor windows are tripartite, meaning they are divided into three sections, with two panes per sash in the central section. All windows are set within rusticated surrounds, featuring keystones, and are separated by moulded panels with concave corners of varying widths. There is a platband and rusticated quoins. The front doors are from the 20th century. Inside, the main rooms have elaborate plaster ceilings, attributed to Gillingham, a local plasterer from Chard. These ceilings are said to be inspired by those in the Manor Court House on Fore Street.
