Description
This building is a row of four workers' cottages located at 63-69 High Street, constructed in 1886 by G. J. Skipper for William S. Clark. The cottages are designed in a Tudor style and feature an irregular plan that is symmetrical about the center. They are made of irregularly coursed squared rubble and topped with double Roman tile roofs, supported by four brick ridge stacks.
The façade consists of two stages with a total of four bays, where the outer bays are in shallow projecting wings with front-facing gables. Each wing has 4-light chamfered stone-mullioned windows. The central two bays have windows on the first floor set in gabled dormers, featuring 2-light casements with 12 panes. The ground floor also has two similar casements with cambered heads, although the one on the right has been replaced with a non-conforming 20th-century metal casement.
There are four door openings with plank doors, except for No. 63, which has a six-panelled door. Nos. 65 and 67 are adorned with double Roman tiled hoods, while Nos. 63 and 69 have doors set back on either side of the projecting wings. The swept eaves create a hood over each door. The cottages are inscribed with "Strode Cottages 1886."
