Description
Sweet Briar Cottage is a detached cottage with origins dating back to the 16th or 17th century. It is constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared, topped with a thatched roof featuring plain gables and brick end chimney stacks. The cottage is two storeys high and consists of three bays. The windows are 20th-century casements with diamond leaded panes, and the lower windows are set under a continuous label. The second bay contains a 20th-century boarded door, which is sheltered by a thatched hood supported by timber brackets. On the west gable, there is an apparent extension featuring a 20th-century three-light oriel window, and this side also includes a former farm building with doorways that have been blocked on the roadside, now covered by a corrugated asbestos monopitch roof. To the east gable, there is a further long plain extension. The interior has not been seen, but it is reported to have a two-room layout with a cross-passage plan, almost full-width gable fireplaces, and a collar truss roof. This cottage shares similar architectural features with nearby Henley Farmhouse and Windsor Farmhouse.
