Description

Chilton Trivett Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, which was largely rebuilt in the late 19th century. It is rendered and colourwashed with a double-Roman tile roof and brick stacks, forming an L-plan structure. The entrance front has two storeys and two bays, featuring three and four-light casement windows, with the first-floor windows under stopped wooden labels. To the left, there is a prominent gable adorned with an ornamental bargeboard and a finial, along with a decorative blank wooden lancet on the gable face. The entrance includes a half-glazed door flanked by side-lights and topped with an overall transom light, featuring 19th-century stained glass. There is also a gabled half-glazed porch with an ornamental bargeboard and additional stained glass.

A notable feature inside is the first-floor room, which boasts a fine plaster ceiling with scrolled strapwork decoration, a pendant, and a coved cornice, all supported by four massive fluted brackets. The wall has a strapwork overmantel with raised lettering reading "F C 1662," and the fireplace in this room has been blocked. The corresponding ground-floor room has a heavily moulded and plastered cross-beam ceiling divided into four panels. The remainder of the interior features are mainly from the late 19th century, including a straight flight staircase in a "Jacobethan" style and some chamfered and stopped ceiling beams.
