Description
Burcott Manor House is a manor house, later adapted for residential use, dating from the late 16th to early 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century and some 20th-century changes. The building is constructed of roughly coursed rubble, with areas of render, and has coped verges and triple-Roman tile roofs, topped with brick stacks. It follows a roughly H-shaped plan. The two-storey-and-attic house has a front elevation of 1:1:5:1 bays, with projecting wings on the first, second, and fourth bays, each with a gabled front. The first bay features a sash window with glazing bars on the first floor and a canted bow window with a sash window and glazed doors on the ground floor. The second bay has a three-light stone mullioned and transomed window with leaded lights. The central five bays feature two-, three-, and four-light stone mullioned windows with square-paned leaded lights. The attic has two box dormers and a central gabled dormer with a small leaded window set within a stone surround, along with a sundial. The right bay has a pitching eye on the first floor and sash windows. There are three door openings: to the left is a ribbed door within a chamfered freestone surround with a four-centred head, alongside a 20th-century glazed door, and a broad opening with paired plank doors. Inside, some 18th-century features remain, including fireplaces, doors, and likely a staircase, along with ceiling beams and a chamfered flat-pointed arch door opening with a surviving oak door.
