Description
The former market cross, located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mark, is likely from the 15th century and was restored in 1749 and again in 1853. It is constructed of dressed stone and features three steps that create a square base. Atop the base is a socket with broaches and a tapering shaft that ends in a square conical finial, which has a small iron cross fixed to it. The south side of the socket is inscribed with "SILVESTER KEEN, DAVID SULLY, CHURCHWARDENS, 1749," while the north side reads "REBUILT 1853. THOMAS MAYNE, GEORGE COOK HUTSON, CHURCH WARDENS."
