Description
Walton Windmill is a tower mill that has been converted into a dwelling. It was likely built in 1793 for Thomas, Marquis of Bath, on an earlier site. The mill was converted into a home in 1926 when the tower was heightened and the sails and machinery were removed. A single-storey extension added to the south in the late 20th century is not of special interest. The structure is made of coursed and squared rubble, which is colourwashed, and features a parapet with coping and a squat brick chimney. The tower is slightly tapering and circular in plan, standing four storeys tall. Each floor has one and two-light metal casements with glazing bars. There is a door opening to the east with a studded plank door. The windmill is primarily noted for its prominent position in the landscape and holds some historical importance.
