Description
The Corner House is a house that has been converted into commercial premises. It dates from the early to mid 18th century and has undergone alterations in the early 19th century and mid 20th century. The exterior features stucco on a Ham Hill stone plinth and a pantile roof. The building has a double-depth central stairhall plan and is two storeys high with two windows across the front. A classical-style wooden doorcase with a pediment and dentilled cornice frames a six-panel door, four of which are glazed. This doorcase is flanked by large early 19th-century semi-circular bays that rise two storeys and rest on stone plinths, featuring 20th-century fixed lights with glazing bars.
Inside, there is an open-well staircase with a swept mahogany rail, stick balusters, and turned newels. The fireplaces in the front left and upper rooms have plain mid-18th-century surrounds and early 19th-century hobgrates.
