Description
The Aplin family monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 8 metres north of the priest's door of the Church of St Nicholas. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of Ham stone. The tomb features a ledger top, a moulded cornice, and a plinth, along with fluted end pilasters. All faces of the tomb are inscribed, with the south face dedicated to Williams Aplin, who died in 1815. The inscription is partially legible and reads: "Dangers and thick through all the ground to rush us to the tomb, And fierce diseases wait around to hurry mortals home."
