Description
The Methodist Church and church rooms, dated 1896, are constructed from random rubble local stone with dressed quoins and slate roofs. The building features overhanging eaves, barge boards, boarded gable ends, and terracotta finials. The church is oriented with its gable end facing east, and includes a south porch at the angle with two large rooms that are divided by folding doors, along with a service area in the north-east corner. The east gable end has a four-light window with reticulated tracery and a lean-to roofed porch with an arched doorway. There is a plant door with decorative hinges and a panelled inner door. The south front features two gable ends with four-light windows and inset panels displaying the names of donors. The west front has two sash windows and a porch set at an angle with a lean-to roof. The north front has a two-storey gable at the mast end with two sash windows on the first floor and four below.
The interior, which was only partially seen, includes church rooms with collar beam roofs and boarded ceilings, as well as boarded dados. The south-west hall has a gallery at the north end supported by cast iron columns, with stairs and panelled folding doors featuring a cast iron central column. The church interior was not accessible during the survey in November 1985. The gates and railings are set in a dwarf wall, featuring cast iron railings and gates with fleurs-de-lys heads, along with a random rubble dwarf wall topped with Portland stone coping.
