Description

The Rectory Court, dating to around 1840, is a vicarage now divided into flats, built in an Italian villa style. It is constructed of squared and coursed chert stone with limestone dressings, with the garden front stuccoed. The building has hipped slate roofs with overhanging eaves, and a pyramid roof over the entrance tower.

The building is planned with an entrance tower at the east end fronting the road, a canted bay facing south on the garden front, and set into a hillside at the west end. The east front tower is three storeys plus an attic, with pilaster quoins and a rusticated ground floor. It contains a paired light opening to the attic with an ashlar surround and a flat string through the lintel of a wooden two-light oriel window with a modillion cornice and shaped brackets. To the right of the oriel is a twelve-pane sash window. The first floor has two tall arch-headed windows in ashlar surrounds, and a twelve-pane tripartite sash window to the right, with a six-pane sash below. The moulded entrance lintel has a semi-circular opening with incised spandrels and a panelled door, with a half-glazed inner door. The left return of the tower, facing the garden, was slightly modified in the 20th century and has a roughcast ground floor. The main block fronting the garden includes a full-height bow with three bays on each side, featuring twelve-pane sashes with keystones. The vicarage was divided into flats in the 1970s.
