Description
Bladon Cottage is a cottage that dates from the 17th and 18th centuries. It features coursed and squared rubble on the ground floor and roughcast on the first floor, topped with a double-Roman tile roof, coped verge, and end brick stacks. The building has two storeys and three bays. On the ground floor, there is a 4-light moulded stone-mullioned window with a stopped label, a 2-light casement with glazing bars in a formerly larger opening that has been partially blocked with brick and has a stopped label, and two small 4-pane casements. The central door opening has a moulded surround with a 4-centred arch head, a label, and a studded plank door with strap hinges. The first floor contains three-light casements, and there are further stone-mullioned windows on the south-west elevation. The north-east gable reveals the timbers of a framed truss. Inside, there are notable features such as ceiling beams, three fireplaces (one in a stone surround with a 4-centred arch head and another with a timber-framed firehood), two doorways with peaked heads, a small amount of ornamental plasterwork, and walls clad with carved panelling.
