Description
The Old Smithy is a building that consists of two cottages, which have been combined into a single dwelling. It dates from the 17th century, with late 19th century and some 20th century alterations. The structure is built of rubble, with some areas retaining rough plaster, and features a slate roof with coped verges and brick and rubble stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a layout of three bays on one side and two on the other. It includes 2 and 3-light moulded stone-mullioned windows, with labels above the ground floor windows. There are three 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars, one of which is located in the stone surround of a former door opening. The door opening on the left has an edge-moulded stone surround and a plank door. This building was originally inhabited by the blacksmith and wheelswright.
