Description
Toll Cottage is an early 19th-century toll house constructed of ashlar with a slate roof that is hipped at one end and features ashlar stacks. The building is designed in the Gothick style and stands two storeys high, with a layout of three bays on the left and one bay on the right. It has later 2-light wooden casements set in pointed-arch openings, with one window still showing remnants of original glazing bars. To the right, there is a two-storey canted bay. The door opening is located to the left and features a plank door, which is sheltered by a later stone porch that has a stone pentice hood, supported by earlier wrought-iron brackets behind. Toll Cottage was part of the former Shepton Mallet Turnpike Trust.
