Description
Nos. 29-33 on South Street is a terrace of three houses built in the mid-19th century, featuring different designs. Constructed from brownish brick in Flemish bond with plain tile roofs, the houses are two storeys high and consist of three bays each, stepping up the hill to the east with straight joints between them. Each house has a central round-arched doorway with a six-panel door (no. 29 has a boarded door) and a fanlight with glazing bars (the fanlight of no. 31 is blocked). The windows are sash style with glazing bars, flat brick arches, and projecting sills, with a dummy window at the first floor center of no. 31. The houses have gabled end stacks and one stack at the rear of no. 29. The left side of no. 29 features a blind window on each floor. At the rear, there are added single-storey outshuts, and the bricks of the rear wall of no. 33 have been left ragged at the left end to allow for a future extension of the row. This terrace is an unusually complete example of this type of housing.
