Description

Hill Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse built in the 17th century and later. It features near-ashlar stone construction and a thatched roof with coped gables, the western gable being stepped. The building has an 'L' plan, is two storeys high, and consists of three wide bays. The windows are casewent, with three lights in plain openings and gauged stone flat arches. The lower bay three has a projecting single-storey porch with a Welsh slate roof and a cambered outer archway, likely from the 19th century. The west gable includes two three-light hollow-chamfer mullioned windows set in wave-mould recesses with labels, although the lower window is blocked with brickwork. There is also a two-light mullioned window in the rear wall, which is in a chamfered recess but has had its mullion removed. A rear extension matches the original structure, and there is a later lean-to extension along the north wall. The windows in the east wall of the rear extension are 18th-century leaded casements with iron-framed opening lights. The interior has not been seen but is said to have a three-room plan. By 1735, the house was leased to Lord Hinton, who reserved the parlour and the chamber above for himself.
