Description

The Coach House at Lullington House is a coach house and stables that has been converted into a dwelling. It was built around 1866 by the architect George Devey and underwent conversion in the early 21st century. The structure is made of stone rubble with stone dressings and is partly roughcast, topped with a stone tile roof featuring deep eaves and verges at the gable ends. There is a stone lateral stack with set-offs and a red brick shaft.

The building has an L-shaped plan, with the grooms lodge and stables located in the southwest wing and the coach house and stables in the northeast wing, now entirely converted into one dwelling. It is designed in the Arts and Crafts/Domestic Revival style and consists of one storey and an attic.

The exterior features an asymmetrical south front with three small 2-light stone mullion windows on the right, one of which is in a blocked coach house door. To the left is a plank door leading to the former stables, topped with a flat stone arch and a gabled dormer above, which was previously a loft loading doorway. The lower wing projects on the left with a roughcast gable end, stone window frames, and a new doorway on the inner (east) side. At the rear, there is a projecting lateral chimney stack with dressed stone quoins, weathered set-offs, and a red brick upper part of the shaft.

The interior has not been inspected as it has been converted into a dwelling. This well-detailed coach house and stables, designed by the notable Victorian architect George Devey, has group value with Lullington House, which is also designed by Devey and is listed.
