Description
A pair of cottages dated 1861 and designed by T.H. Wyatt as part of the Orchardlea estate. They are constructed of coursed rubble with flush dressed quoins, and have a tile roof, half-hipped to the left and gable to the right, adjoining a lower hipped section. Two rubble stacks are present, along with a former projecting stack to the left of the frontage, now truncated. The cottages are of a picturesque style and are one storey and attic, with a 1:1 bay arrangement. Dormer windows illuminate the attic, each containing a three-light moulded stone mullioned window. Ground floor windows are four-light openings with stopped labels. Two door openings have plain stone surrounds and plank doors, each sheltered by a semi-circular stone hood supported on cut stone brackets. A recessed stone plaque is centrally located on the first floor, bearing raised stone lettering indicating "WD 1861". The right return has a single bay, featuring two-light mullioned windows, the first-floor window set within a gabled dormer.
