Description
This is a farmhouse, now divided into three separate dwellings, located in Lower Pedwell. The core of the building dates back to before 1500, with a gabled wing added to the rear and external features from the 18th century. It is constructed of stucco with a double Roman tile roof and has three brick ridge stacks, one with a dressed stone base. The farmhouse originally followed a cross-passage plan with an open hall.
The building is two storeys high and has a 1:1:1 bay arrangement. It features 3-light casement windows, with one in a pent-roofed half dormer, and a further 6-light casement to the left. There are two door openings: one to No. 22 with French windows, another to No. 24 with a 6-panelled door, the top two panels glazed, set within a moulded cambered-headed dressed stone surround, topped with an initial stone set over a small “trellis” porch with a pyramidal lead roof. A further door opening is located to the left return of No. 26, with a 20th-century door. A large sun-dial with Roman numerals is positioned at the centre of the frontage.
Internally, the building retains a roof constructed with cruck timbers and an open hall in No. 22. In this section is also an ornamental plaster ceiling dating to the 17th century.
