Description
The Church of St Michael is a parish church with a western tower dating from around 1400, while the rest of the church was built in 1838 by Jesse Gane in the Early English style. It is constructed from coursed and squared rubble, with the nave and chancel made of ashlar stone. The tower features diagonal buttresses, an embattled parapet with pinnacles, gargoyles at each corner, and single bell chamber windows. There is a narrow doorway on the west side that is incorporated into a window and has an ogee head. The broad nave consists of five bays, each with lancet windows and divided by buttresses, and includes north and south doors, with the south door having a gabled porch. The short chancel has a three-light east window and an attached vestry on the north side. The nave contains stained glass from the 1880s with Art Nouveau ornamentation, as well as nine stone memorial plaques, the earliest of which dates to 1672 and commemorates Edward Morris.
