Description
Number 10 is a building dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with alterations made around 1774. It has two storeys and features three windows with glazing bar sashes set in architraves; the original design likely included paired outer windows. The central entrance has a six-panel door with an architrave and a slab hood supported by brackets. The roof is covered with pantiles and has stone chimneys at both ends. There are garret lights in the north-east gable. At the rear, there is an 'L' shaped extension that includes a tall cross mullion stair window with a beaded surround, which is similar to those found at Nos 16 and 17 Stony Street but likely built around 1720. A slightly later one-and-a-half storey extension to the north features a gabled dormer and a cast-iron oval rainwater head.
Inside, there is a notable early 18th-century staircase with a heavy handrail and splat balusters, along with a dog-gate in a later (circa 1770) Chinese Chippendale style. The ground floor front right-hand room is panelled and includes a display cupboard with a shell hood and a Tudor Gothick fireplace from the 20th century. A studded door leads into the passage. The property has a long front garden bordered by a dwarf stone wall and panelled piers, which date from around 1811.
