Description
The entrance gate piers to Newton House and estate are likely from the 18th century and are made of Ham stone. There are four piers in total. The inner piers are square, featuring moulded plinths and flush pyramidal caps, measuring about 0.6 metres square and 2.6 metres high. The outer piers are also square, with a moulded base and a cornice mould cap topped by a block and urn, measuring about 0.5 metres square and 2.75 metres high. There is a central timber vehicular gate with pedestrian gates on either side. These piers are part of the setting for Newton House. The owner suggests that the inner piers may be a later addition, while the outer piers were relocated from the original entrance, which was further south.
