Description

The engineering workshops and stores located approximately 5 metres north of Star House and Star Cottage are part of the estate village of Sir William Amcotts Ingilby. These buildings date from the early to mid-19th century and were originally stables and outbuildings. Constructed from coursed squared gritstone with a grey slate roof, the structure is L-shaped and consists of two storeys, extending about 8 bays in length, with a two-storey, two-bay wing at a right angle to the right.

The design reflects the Gothick style, featuring original openings with pointed two-piece lintels, board doors, and windows with ventilators on the ground floor. The seven first-floor windows have 30-pane fixed frames, some of which include inserted casements. There are two 20th-century sliding garage doors located at the center and on the right wing. A straight flight of external steps leads up in the angle between the main range and the wing, with two board doors at the top and a 30-pane window in the right wing. The building includes stone gutter brackets, a hipped roof, and a chimney with three attached octagonal shafts located on the ridge between the first and second bays. The range was originally the stables for the Star Inn, which is now known as Star House and Cottage. This building is included for its group value.
