Description
The Black Bull Public House, located on the north side of Old Market Place in Ripon, is a building with origins in the early 19th century for its east part, while the west part features a mid-19th century front that conceals a 17th-century timber-framed structure. The exterior is roughcast, with the east part topped by a modern hipped pantile roof, and the west part featuring an older pantile roof behind a tall parapet. The west section includes a segmental two-storey bow window with sash windows that have glazing bars and moulded cornices, as well as a door with six fielded panels, a semi-circular fanlight, reeded pilasters, and a cornice. There is also a small round-headed window with a moulded surround. The east part has two two-storey canted bow windows, also with sashes and moulded cornices.
Inside, the west part showcases 17th-century moulded joists in the ground floor ceiling and a mid-18th-century staircase with contemporary balusters.
