Description

The gate piers and walls that form the main entrance to Croft Hall were built in the early 18th century and early 19th century for William Chaytor. The gate piers are made of painted ashlar and are square in plan, featuring chamfered banded rustication on square bases, plain entablatures, cornices, and stepped bases for urns. The quadrant walls, which are also 18th century, are partly roughcast and topped with 19th-century brown sandstone coping. These walls end in 19th-century brown ashlar piers, which are square in plan and have cornice caps with pyramidal tops, creating a corner with later garden walls that are not of special interest.
