Description

Tranmire Stone is a boundary stone from the 18th century made of millstone grit. It stands approximately one metre high and is set into a wall at the south angle of Tranmire Bog field. The stone is dressed square with a pyramidal top and is positioned diagonally. The north-west face is inscribed with the words 'East Witton', while the south-west face features a hand carved pointing to the right. The south-east face is inscribed with 'Masham-shire', and the north-east face also has a hand carved pointing to the right.
