Description
The Old Gatehouse is a house of C13 and C19 origin, formerly part of Jervaulx Abbey. It is constructed of ashlar and rubble stone with a slate roof. The building is two storeys high, with three first-floor windows. A C20 part-glazed door is located in bay three. Openings are finished with sandstone sills and lintels, and contain four-pane sash windows. Chimneys are situated at the left end and between bays two and three. The rear elevation has an irregular plan, incorporating a section of a medieval gatehouse doorway and fireplace. The right return features two small pointed windows. The building was formerly listed as Jervaulx Abbey Lodge.
