Description

A chapel, built in 1794 and later converted into houses by 1868, with a thorough restoration occurring in the mid-20th century. The building stands three storeys high and comprises three bays by five bays. The gable front features 20th-century doors and windows, with some openings having flat arches. A blind oculus is located in the gable. A brick ridge stack is present. This was the first Wesleyan Chapel in Knaresborough, and it was converted after a second chapel was constructed on Chapel Street. Historical records, including an anonymous publication between 1889 and 1900 and H Speight’s 1906 book “Upper Nidderdale”, document the building's history.
