Description

The Double Arched Bridge No 161, located on the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, is a public road bridge built around 1790, designed by engineer Robert Whitworth. The bridge is constructed from rubble and features two round arches, with the upper arch supporting the road and having short curved parapet walls. The lower arch serves as a strainer arch and appears to be integral due to the unusual height of the abutments.
