Description
Knapton Lodge is an early 19th-century house that has undergone later alterations and extensions. It is constructed of whitewashed brick in Flemish bond, topped with a slate roof and features whitewashed brick stacks. The house has a central-entry plan with a rear service wing and has been extended at the back. It is two stories high with a five-window front. The entrance features a half-glazed and panelled door with a patterned overlight, set within a panelled reveal and fluted surround that includes angle roundels. All the windows are 12-pane sashes with painted stone sills and lintels, and the gables are coped. There are end stacks on both ranges of the double-span roof, and the roof valley is concealed by plain parapets.
Inside, the entrance hall is divided by a semicircular fluted arch with imposts and a panelled soffit. The left room on the ground floor has two segment-arched recesses, similarly framed. There are panelled doors and window recesses on the ground floor, with fluted door frames featuring roundels. In the front rooms on the first floor, original basket grates in plain chimney-pieces are still present.
