Description
This is a headstone for Margret Middleton located in a Quaker burial ground, dated 1676. It is made of gritstone and stands approximately 40 centimetres high. The headstone is circular on a short neck that widens to flat shoulders at the base. The inscription is deeply cut in capitals with clear serifs and reads: "MARGRET / THE WIFE OF BOSSOLL MIDDLE / TON OF KNARESBRO / UGH DEPARTED TH / IS LIFE THE 2- DAY / OF THE 3d MONTH / IN YE YEAR 1676." The headstone is positioned about 5 metres from the east wall and 10 metres from the south wall, facing west.
