Description

Manor Farm House is a house that was originally a farmhouse, dating from the 16th century. It was converted around 1700 and restored in 1983. The building features coursed rubble and timber-framing, topped with a pantile roof and ashlar coped gables with kneelers. It has a single brick gable stack and a single brick ridge stack. The house is two storeys high with a four-window front.

On the street side, there is an off-centre doorway with a 20th-century plank door. To the right of the door is a three-light casement window, and to the left are a four-light and then a three-light casement window, all with timber lintels. Above, there are three two-light casements to the left and a three-light casement to the right.

The garden front features a doorway to the left with a 20th-century stable door and a small window to the right, above which is a three-light casement. To the right, there is a single-storey lean-to under a catslide roof, which has a four-light and a three-light casement window.

Inside, the house retains much of its original timber-frame construction. It was originally an aisled hall house, though only part of one aisle remains today. Most of the outer frame was removed when the walls were replaced with stone, but many vertical posts are still present. Only one internal cross frame remains largely intact, complete with its arched braces and close-stud partitioning. The original roof structure is no longer intact. The best-preserved frame features a very unusual wooden screen. The chamfered timbers, which were inserted around 1700 when the open hall was floored in, are still visible.
