Description

Highfield is a mid-19th century house constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings. The house is two storeys high, with a three-storey tower and attics featuring shaped gables. It has mullion and transom casement windows. A porte-cochere with three round arches fronts the house; the arches are built of channelled ashlar voussoirs with taller keystones, the central arch being the largest. The tower has a flat roof with a moulded cornice and paired ashlar brackets, and includes a semi-circular first-floor oriel on a moulded ashlar squinch. The south elevation features two oblong two-storey bay windows. The group value of Highfield derives from its contribution to the setting of Ripon Palace Road.
