Description

The Old Hall is probably a 16th-century house, with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble on a boulder plinth and has a Welsh slate roof. The house has a two-storey, L-shaped plan. The main elevation has three first-floor windows and quoins. A projection on the left side may have been a garderobe. The ground floor features a doorway with chamfered jambs, now a two-light window; a three-light mullioned window, now widened and containing a side-sliding sash window in the centre, framed by a moulded surround; an inserted doorway; and another window with a voussoired lintel. The first floor has a projecting stack on weathered corbels and two flat-faced mullioned windows in moulded surrounds. A ridge stack is located between the second and third windows. The left return has a three-light casement window in a moulded surround on the ground floor, and a two-light casement window within a surround that originally held a double-chamfered mullioned window on the first floor. A sundial is set into the gable. The left elevation of the rear wing has a small 20th-century porch with a moulded surround to a part-glazed door, and a three-light double-chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor, with a small shield above; the first floor has a two-light casement window in a chamfered surround and a side-sliding sash window. The end return of the rear wing has a large, projecting, stepped chimneybreast. Inside, a ground-floor room in the rear wing has a bolection-surround fireplace, a pointed-arched doorway leading to the main range, and moulded, chamfered beams and joists to the floor above.
