Description
The Market Cross, dating from the late 18th century, features a neo-classical design with Gothic details. It stands on a modern square-plan podium made of ashlar, which has three steps. The cross has a quatrefoil plan and rises from a shallow plinth. Each of the four foils has a moulded cornice and ends in a semi-cone that meets the base of the cruciform shaft. The base has vertical surfaces with eroded gables, which have badly eroded gargoyles at the lower ends. Although worn, the gables seem to have been crocketed. Above the gabled base, the shaft tapers steeply to form a pyramidal shape, retaining the cruciform plan at its eroded top.
